Residents were thrown into panic in Aba, Abia State, at the weekend when a bomb blast seriously injured six traders at the popular Yam Market in the Osisioma-Aba axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. It was gathered that three young men were riding a commercial tricycle popularly called Keke Napep along the expressway when, on approaching the market, two of them at the back threw an explosive device believed to be a bomb into the market. Although no life was lost immediately, however, six traders were said to have been seriously injured as a result of the impact of the explosive, which destroyed stalls and goods within the vicinity. After the incident, the two men were reported to have, in the midst of the melee that ensued, escaped from the scene, while one person said to be the operator of the tricycle was later arrested by soldiers. The Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday arrested the proprietor and principal of Metorite Standard School, Ayetoro, for allegedly tying up two pupils of the school to  ‘crosses’ and flogging them with a horsewhip. The proprietor, Afolayan Joseph, and the yet-to-be-identified principal were said to have tied the pupils for allegedly coming late to school. World Bank has raised alarm and disassociate self from an ongoing multi-purpose scheme in Nigeria. The multi-purpose scheme which is ongoing in Nigeria, mostly Rivers state, and said to be from World Bank, has swiped huge amount of money from citizens who fill forms and pay money ranging from #1,000 to #5,000 to join the scheme which according to those advertising it, is "a program for non-refundable loan for business from World Bank". In a statement published on its website www.worldbank.org, World Bank said it is "Fraudulent", adding that the World Bank does not request for personal financial information from applicants to its programs. Reacting more on the issue, the group said "The World Bank is not behind this multi-purpose scheme." "The World Bank will not be held responsible for any refunds of fees solicited by fraudsters purporting to act on its behalf" they said.
