Hoodlums attacked NYSC camp in Paikoro, Niger state

- The hoodlums reportedly disguised as NYSC officials

- They made away with corps members properties

A group of robbers reportedly attacked the temporary camp of National Youth Service Corps at Paikoro, Niger state and escaped with corps members properties.

Sebkeyzblog.blogspot.com learnt that the robbers invaded the camp around 6 am in the morning and disguised as NYSC officials to art away properties such as fans, mattresses and bedsheets.

Punch reports that the corps members raised alarm when they realised that the disguised hoodlums were not NYSC officials.

The alarm attracted the attention of security agents in the camp, who traced some of the stolen items to the staff quarters of the Government Secondary School.

As of the time of filing this report, one person had been arrested in connection with the robbery, while some of the stolen items had been recovered, including six fans that were purchased for the male and female hostels.

The NYSC Coordinator in Niger State, Mrs. Theresa Arokoyo, said such an incident would not have occurred if the NYSC had a permanent orientation camp in the state.

Arokoyo said that the temporary orientation camp was porous, adding that the incident was not the first time as the camp had always been vandalised each time corps members were on break.

She said: “This development always compels the NYSC authority to spend extra money each time we resume for orientation."
